This paper discusses the usage of ‘we/us’ in the early medieval glosses on Priscian’s Institutiones Grammaticae found in the ninth century manuscript St Gall, Stiftsbibliothek, MS 904. Detailed discussion of Latin and Irish examples aims to shed light on the question who is behind the pronoun ‘we’ in the glosses. In doing this the present article tries to find possible answers to the question of whether or not the Irish glosses are original compositions or translations from Latin.
