The name of the heroine in Tochmarc Ferbe

The Middle Irish tale Tochmarc Ferbe is counted among the remscéla to the Táin Bó Cúailnge in the Book of Leinster (TCD MS H 2. 18 (1339)). Drawing on the metrical evidence available from the Book of Leinster text, a new interpretation of the name of the titular heroine Ferb is offered, which, in turn, may offer further insight into the tale’s thematic relationship with the Táin.
