On the inauguration of Conchubhar Óg MacDiarmada, 1595

Abstract

This article presents an edition and translation of a poem by Fearghal Óg Mac an Bhaird celebrating the inauguration of Conchubhar Óg Mac Diarmada as head of his family in 1595. It may be considered a political poem, which is to be interpreted in the context of other poems composed by this poet and which are paralleled by the work of contemporaries such as Eochaidh Ó hEódhusa, that feature themes of leadership and resilience among satellite characters in the drama of the Nine Years War.
