This paper presents an edition, with translation and notes, of a poem on the decline of patronage and on the inadvisability of pursuing poetry as a profession. It was composed c. 1600 by Maoilín Óg Mac Bruaideadha (†1602), and is implicitly critical of Donnchadh Ó Briain, fourth Earl of Thomond.
